The Energies of August
August 2026 brings a highly charged energy, calling humanity into radical self-expression while pushing for deep emotional processing. The powerful Solar Eclipse on August 12th in the sign of Leo encourages joy and creative pursuits, while the Lunar Eclipse on August 28th in the sign of Pisces brings heightened emotions and major endings. This is a month to harness the potency of the planets to discover (or perhaps re-discover) what sparks joy, what feels sustainable, and what is ready to be released from within.
Major Themes this Month
What sparks joy?
Key Dates: August 6th & 12th
This month is a beautiful time to explore what truly brings pleasure and joy into your day to day existence. What puts a smile on your face? What gets you out of bed in the morning?
Venus enters Libra on August 6th, bringing an energy that calls for greater romantic commitments, more pleasure-filled moments, and lights a spark of inspiration to design and create. Paired with the Solar Eclipse on the 12th, the month of August begins with a fiery pursuit of what ignites joy. Take the time this month to discover what lights you up inside.
Daily self-care rituals.
Key Dates: August 11th & 22nd
August brings major breakthroughs, destiny-driven shifts, and fated endings. Cultivating small, daily moments to care and nurture your mind and body will help to strike balance amongst change.
Mars enters Cancer on August 11th, which may prompt emotional reactions that can lead to hasty decisions. Take time to journal and reflect, perhaps over a cup of chamomile & lemon balm tea to calm the nervous system. As the sun enters Virgo on 22nd, this is a wonderful time to revisit self-care rituals.
Sustainable change.
Key Dates: August 25th & 28th
Big and rapid change often brings a sense of chaos and unpredictability. Instead of getting lost in the momentum, August invites us to find what feels sustainable.
Mercury enters Virgo on August 25th, making this a wonderful time to plan, organize, and sort fact from fiction. Don’t let the fire of Leo season burn you out; pick 1-2 small goals to tackle and remain consistent while progress is made. Making bite-sized, sustainable change will help to balance and neutralize the unsteadiness of the upcoming Lunar Eclipse.

The Lion’s Gate Portal (8/8): A Time for Alignment and Expansion
Each year on August 8th, many spiritual traditions observe the Lion’s Gate Portal as a symbolic period of heightened energy, personal transformation, and manifestation. As the Sun is moving through the sign of Leo—a sign associated with courage, creativity, confidence, and heart-centered expression—the brightest star in the night sky, Sirius, makes its annual appearance. This annual portal is an expansive opportunity to reconnect with your inner light, embrace your unique gifts, and take inspired action toward your dreams.

Activating the Sacral Chakra
The Sacral Chakra (Svadhisthana) is the body’s energy center located just a few inches below the navel, often associated with creativity, emotions, pleasure, and relationships. Energetic blockages within the Sacral Chakra may manifest as difficulty expressing emotions, lack of inspiration or motivation, fear of intimacy or vulnerability, or feeling disconnected from joy and passion.
To activate the Sacral, get out of your comfort zone and play; dance like nobody is watching, cook a new dish, paint, color outside the lines, go outside for a walk. Wear or visualize the color orange during meditation, and breathe deeply down into your pelvis.

Pranayama (breathwork) for the Sacral Chakra
Deep belly breathing (also called Diaphragmatic Breath) is a calming pranayama practice that resets the central nervous system, balance emotions, and restores the Sacral Chakra’s expansive flow of energy .
How to practice: Sit or lie down comfortably, resting both hands face-down on your lower belly. Inhale slowly through your nose, allowing your abdomen to gently expand. Exhale slowly through your nose, letting your belly soften and fall. Continue for 5–10 minutes, taking your time with each and every breath. As you breathe, you may visualize a warm orange light glowing just below your navel, expanding with each inhale and releasing stagnant energy with each exhale.

Mudra of the Month
Dharma Chakra Mudra is a symbolic hand gesture representing the “Wheel of Dharma,” or the continuous flow of wisdom, balance, and spiritual growth. It supports the Sacral Chakra flow of energy by encouraging emotional awareness, and an openness to observe what feelings and sensations are ready to bubble up to the surface to be released. Practicing this Mudra with an intention to embrace creativity, joy, and healthy emotional expression may help cultivate a greater sense of inner balance and harmony.
How to practice: Sit comfortably with a tall spine. Hold your hands in front of your heart, palms facing outward. Lightly touch the tips of your thumbs and index fingers together, as if to form an “ok” sign. With the tips of the index fingers and thumbs together, flip one hand upside down while the remaining fingers extend naturally. Breathe slowly and hold for as long as you desire.

August Herbs

Passion Flower
Passion flower is traditionally valued for its calming and soothing qualities, making it a supportive companion for the sacral chakra when emotions feel overwhelming or stagnant. By encouraging relaxation and emotional ease, it can create space for creativity, intuition, and healthy emotional expression to flow more freely. In August, as the energy of summer begins to transition toward the slower rhythm of late season, Passion flower offers an invitation to slow down, reflect, and remain connected to your inner peace while continuing to cultivate joy and inspiration.

Ylang Ylang
With its sweet, floral aroma, Ylang Ylang is traditionally associated with the sacral chakra, encouraging emotional openness, creativity, pleasure, and self-expression. Often used in aromatherapy, meditation, or self-care rituals, it is believed to help release emotional tension and invite a greater sense of joy and connection. During the month of August—a season often associated with warmth, abundance, and vibrant life—Ylang Ylang can serve as a gentle reminder to embrace creativity, nurture meaningful relationships, and celebrate the simple pleasures that restore balance and vitality.
